Continuing mission By Mukhtar Ahmed Butt

Pakistan is engaged in a serious battle against the Taliban who are threatening our very existence.
Gen Pasha's performance over the two years has been superb. Normally service extensions are viewed with scepticism, but in this case it was widely expected as many believed that it was done on merit. In Pakistan's history no ISI chief has met the president and the prime minister as frequently as Gen Pasha has in the recent past. His regular briefings on the ongoing operation in FATA to the president and the prime minister speak volume of the existing mutual understanding. Moreover, his extension has been welcomed by the US and NATO as well. Some people are criticising the decision, but let me remind them that during war the command structure is not disturbed until its results are achieved. In 1965 General Akhtar Malik was removed in the thick of the battle when Indians were on the run. General Ayub replaced him with General Yahya Khan only to bring him in the limelight. Pakistan paid a heavy price for his decision. Let us not repeat the same mistake.
